Flower love...

June 12, 2017

"A flower stands out from the usual disorder that characterizes most perceptible things. They are privileged forms that are more intelligible for the eye, even though more mysterious for the mind, than all the others we see indistinctly." -Paul Valery
The white peonies are early in their maturity filled with innocence, grace and a quiet presence fills the room. Painting is such a spontaneous exercise- and I noticed one peony found itself in a solo position on the canvas- a representation of freedom. Raw umber finds its way on the canvas - it was a hue I grew up with - the first application of this color felt like coming home as my palette returns to earthy undertones = happiness! This painting was created on three California coastlines, a live painting event and nurtured in my studio for the final touches
